The S.O.S. Lesson Materials
The Weight of Sin

Introduction: Because of increasing wickedness in the last days, people tend to regard sin lightly, which further hinder them from repenting and turning to God for His mercy and forgiveness. This lesson will cause realization of the seriousness and weight of sin as revealed in the fact that sin caused the Son of God to die on the cross. The burden of man's sin was loaded upon Jesus. If a man miss this truth, he will have to carry the weight of sin himself.

  1. ALL SIN IS MORTAL
    1. Every kind of sin is the same in the eyes of God. Religion has confusing classifications of sin thereby producing licentiousness without remorse or regret. But the Bible reveals that every kind of sin is the same in that all result to death - which is expulsion from the kingdom of God. All sin brings death to the soul, and is death deserving. Study: ROM 1:28 - 32; 1CO 6:9-10; GAL 5:19-21; EPH 5:3-5.
    2. Every kind of man is equally sinful in the eyes of God. ROM 2:11 - For God does not show favoritism. The rich and the poor are all sinners; the freeman or the prisoner; the master and the slaves – they are all sinners.
  2. ALL ARE GUILTY AND MUST BE PUNISHED
    1. Each one is guilty and will give an account of his/her life to God. ROM 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. EZE 18:20 - The soul who sins is the one who will die. The son will not share the guilt of the father, nor will the father share the guilt of the son.
    2. God is right and we are wrong. ECC 7:20 There is not a righteous man on earth who does what is right and never sins. 1JO 1:8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 1JO 1:10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.
  3. ALL THE PUNISHMENT OF MAN'S SIN WAS POURED OUT ON JESUS
    1. Because every man is guilty, no one has a chance to receive help from or extend help to another person. Only the sinless one can save others. This sinless one is Jesus, the Son of God. Imagine how heavy was all of mankind's sin and punishment that was poured on Jesus. HEB 2:9 - He tasted death for everyone. TIT 2:14 - (He) gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.
    2. All sin is mortal, but all sin can be forgiven. Because Christ has already paid the punishment for sin, all sin can be forgiven. He is our substitute, He died in our place. You need not pay for the punishment of sin yourself.
