CONVENE: Training goals & guidelines

`CONVENE’ is the SOS action step that refers to the gathering of SOS volunteers for training. It is an SOS policy that only those who have completely undergone the current one-week training program will be enlisted in the teams to be sent to the current target towns. The goals for the training explain this requirement:

  1. To provide fresh motivation for service through prophetic ministry of the Word and mighty experience of God's Presence that are needed to face the challenges awaiting the volunteers on field. The Worshipers will become Effective Workers!
  2. To prepare the volunteers for confrontational spiritual battle. SOS Evangelism brings us into enemy's territory and setting his captives free. The SOS volunteers must be an army of spiritual warriors: ready to confront, engage & defeat the enemy in battle!
  3. To equip volunteers to have maximum and effective participation in reaching the desired goals through the SOS strategy.
  4. To bring the volunteers to start working harmoniously with a group, practicing principles of wholesome relationships, teamwork, and submission.

GETTING THE MOST OUT OF THE TRAINING

Most of the sessions will be seminar type and will not provide time for interaction. So, purpose in your heart and mind to learn as much as you could. Regard your time of listening here not as an expenditure, but an investment for God's kingdom.

Jesus Christ said - `Whoever has (ears to hear) will be given more (knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven) and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have (ears to hear) even what he has (of the secrets of the kingdom) will be taken from him' (MAT 13:9-12).

  1. BE AN ACTIVE LISTENER.
    1. Take down notes
    2. Follow and read Bible passages referred to and underline them
    3. Underline or encircle key portions of hand-outs
    4. Write down insights, personal comments, and questions to ask later.

  2. BE AWARE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT'S TEACHING MINISTRY.
Pray for His anointing upon your hearing & upon the lecturers, for the charismatic gifts of teaching & word of wisdom to be in operation.
  3. CENTER ATTENTION ON CONTENT, NOT ON DELIVERY.
The listener's PRIMARY task is not to judge the quality of presentation. The mark of a mature listener is searching for something of value in the lecture.
  4. DO ASSIGNMENTS, GET INVOLVED in sessions requiring participation
  5. STRIVE FOR MASTERY OF DAILY LESSONS by reviewing the notes during the study hours provided. Prepare for daily quizzes.
  6. BE ON TIME. The first few statements of the lecturer often include keys to understand the whole presentation.
  7. ASK IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS. Don't leave things that are not clear to you unsettled. You can ask after the session.
