THE S.O.S. GOAL AND S.O.S TEAM
JOB DESCRIPTION of Squad Leader

RESPONSIBLE TO:Field Director

PRE-FIELD DUTIES:

  1. Introduce self to members: Christian experience, SOS experience, life & work philosophy,etc.
  2. Assist FD in organizing the squad and confirming appointments to positions of squad officers.
  3. Once the squads are formed, facilitate the acquaintance and mutual acceptance of squad members.
  4. Facilitate acquaintance among members. Develop comradeship among them.
  5. Oversee squad members during travel to target place. Form `buddy’ system.

DUTIES RELATED TO CAMP-LIFE:

  1. Mobilize squad to help warden in setting up quarters. Lead the same in breaking camp after field work.
  2. Assist Team Warden in forming and monitoring housekeeping teams.
  3. Act as the direct eye and arm of the Team Chaplain in looking after the squad members with regards to their personal needs: spiritual, emotional and physical and relational. Report any untoward incidents, illness, and misbehavior of members for his immediate attention Chaplain.
  4. Certify valid request of a member to leave quarters for reasons outside his S.O.S. assignment.
  5. See to it that members live up to the standards, rules and procedures for a wholesome camp-life:
    1. practice of hygiene
    2. security-consciousness
    3. respect for property of others.
    4. punctuality
    5. faithfulness to work assignments
    6. observance of agreed standards, procedures, policies
    7. proper behavior towards opposite sex
    8. uncomplaining servanthood
    9. submission to leadership & to one another

DUTIES IN RELATION TO THE CHURCH PLANTING WORK

  1. Guard that members are always spiritually ready for the task through personal prayer and devotional study of the Word of God.
  2. Assist FD in keeping high the motivation of members.
  3. Attend all meetings called for by the FD and communicate instructions Squad operations.
  4. Serve as the FD’s direct arm in implementing the S.O.S. strategy and maneuvering the team in reaching the goal.
    1. Implement the daily directives of the FD. Clarify these to squad members.
    2. Direct the actions of the squad members in line w/ the directions given by the FD.
    3. Lead squad into action to reach the portion of the church planting goal allotted to them; can lead squad to set higher goals.
    4. Form squad members into pairs of field workers. Make regrouping as necessary.
    5. Oversee the Contact-Convert-Congregate activities of the squad. Check that they perform their roles spelled out for each action step.
    6. Make daily evaluation of results of squad effort. Keep track of records of results.
    7. Constantly strategize with squad members for better results. Plan how to maximize use of time and effort. Be creative in methods to gain more contacts & converts.
    8. Oversee the work of the Squad Officers
  5. Attend with squad members equipping sessions of Team Trainer. Supplement the general equipping session by conducting group study with squad members.
  6. Promote team effort, sharing of one another’s strengths and affirming one another.
  7. See to it that squad members are thorough in the way they work. Promote the attitude of finishing the task well.
