THE S.O.S. GOAL AND S.O.S TEAM
JOB DESCRIPTION of Pioneer Worker

The Pioneer worker is an indispensable member of the S.O.S. team in a target place.
He is to be present throughout the duration of the field work. As the recipient
of the results of the team’s effort, he is expected to be the most enthusiastic
and active part of the team in terms of ministering to the contacts and
converts. He is to work under the leadership of the FD and closely with
the team members.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Field Director, for the duration of the Field Work.
RESPONSIBILITTIES PRIOR TO FIELD WORK:
- If possible, survey the target place himself.
- Study the survey of the town and get all
information available about the place.
- Pray for God-given vision for the town.
- Start a consistent intercession program for the place.
- Prepare self spiritually and physically. Being the pastor, prepare
proper clothes to wear on field.
- Prepare tools for effective Bible study and ministry of the Word.
- Prepare ahead of time the messages to preach in
the congregational meetings, especially in the Grand Opening Service.
- Make prior arrangements for personal housing and for the fellowship
center.
- Establish support base for accountability and financial support.
- Master roles spelled out for Pioneer Worker in the different stages
of the S.O.S. church planting strategy.
RESPONSIBILITIES ON FIELD:
- BUILD RELATIONSHIP WITH CONTACTS/CONVERTS
- Establish goodwill with the city, town or baranggay leaders.
Be with FD to visit officials and other key people in town.
Prepare a Bible as your gift. Show verses like ROM 13.17, 1TI 2.1-6, 1PE 2.13-17.
Pray for their affairs, families.
- Make a daily visitation program of good contacts and converts to build
friendship and fraternal relations with them.
- Be ready at all time to be called to minister to a contact or convert.
- Secure daily information about contacts and converts to find out those who are
scheduled for visit, those who need prayers or counsel.
- Reach out to the unchurched Christians and invite them into the meetings.
- Maintain a high level of motivation and spiritual readiness to minister
to contacts and converts through teaching, praying for the sick, baptism
in HS, etc.
- Know from the squad leaders good converts and potential leaders and spend
extra discipling efforts on these people.
- Seek to establish spiritual authority among converts through effective
ministry of the work. Believe God for signs and wonders to accompany the
preaching of the Word.
- WORK ALONGSIDE THE S.O.S. TEAM
- Work very closely with the FD as to methods and focus of
daily work.
- Maintain a cooperative spirit and an appreciative attitude towards the
team for their effort in helping start a church in the town.
- Being the pastor of the church being planted:
Must work with exemplary zeal in prayer and intercession for the town, in
getting contacts, in conducting Bible Studies, and in discipling and
congregating the new believers.<.LI>
- Being a member of the LEAD group: Must work with the rest of the LEAD
members through the different stages of the field work.
- Perform roles expected of the PW
throughout the field work.
- Attend all meetings and equipping sessions called for by the FD.
- Promote the leadership of the FD to the team members and submit plans
to FD to align them with his over-all directions.
- Subject himself to observe all procedures and policies for the SOS
operations just like any member of the team would. This
includes being willing to be disciplined if needed.
- PREPARE FOR SMOOTH TAKEOVER
- Sit down regularly with the FD to plan for effective ministry
with the contacts & converts.
- As much as possible, personally conduct all water baptisms.
- Initiate and maintain regular group meetings that will enhance linkage
with contacts and converts such as Discipleship Classes,
Daily Prayer Meeting, Counseling Session.
- Give priority to the preparation of his sermons for the congregate
meetings. Prepare his best Sermon for the Grand Opening Service
- Prepare to communicate his vision and immediate plans for the new
church – to the committed core members during the First Church Meeting.
- Give extra effort to build strong relations with provisional leaders,
Bible Study facilitators and other good converts who will most likely be
part of the core group.
- Sit down with FD to plan his immediate conservation efforts.
- Plan for the Appreciation Service for SOS Volunteers.
Prepare certificates (available from the Team Scribe).
- CONTINUE THE CHURCH PLANTING WORK.
- Secure from Team Scribe all the records of the new church.
- Implement immediate conservation efforts planned with the FD.
- Give primary attention in developing the core group members and involve
them as much as possible in the conservation work.
- Continue to pray, plan, follow-up, and propagate the work using the methods
and systems started by the S.O.S. team.
- Pastor the new church with confidence and sense of destiny that he is
God’s appointed man in the place.
SUMMARY: Concentrate on results/converts. Focus on building
relationships with contacts and converts, and drawing them to his
leadership. Lead the contacts/converts, not the SOS team. Promote the
leadership of the field director among the SOS team.
