THE S.O.S. GOAL AND S.O.S TEAM
JOB DESCRIPTIONS of Chaplain & Trainer

The task of the Field Director is enormous. However, he doesn’t have to do all the work. The SOS team organization provides him with several major leaders designated to perform in behalf of him some of the key functions in directing and managing the team members. This will free him to concentrate more on strategizing and maneuvering the team to reach the church planting goals.

PASTOR CHAPLAIN

  1. Serves as pastor and Head Counselor of the team members to deal with them on matters:
    1. Concerning their personal needs: physical, emotional and spiritual.
    2. Concerning their behavior in the SOS camp: how they behave according to agreed camp life rules.
    3. Concerning their relationships with their leaders and other team members.

  2. Assist the FD in the motivation of the team through the Word of God. Prepares the daily ministry of the Word for the motivation of the team. Seeks to minister with prophetic insight and operate in the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
  3. Assist the FD in maintaining wholesome relationship among team members as well as a wholesome atmosphere in the camp through:
    1. Helping volunteers endure and even enjoy hardships.
    2. Putting up a daily slogan to inspire them.
    3. Spotting some testimonies worth sharing and scheduling them to be testified to the group.

  4. Limitations:
    1. Works closely and in submission to the FD and with the assistance of the squad leaders.
    2. Deals with team members only in matters concerning their personal and relational life in the camp. Assigning jobs and checking on team members’ performance of their church planting roles is the jurisdiction of the FD as assisted by the squad leaders. He can deal with a team in this area if the FD asks him to help.

TEAM TRAINER

  1. Finds out topics and emphases for the equipping sessions for team members by:
    1. Consulting the FD
    2. Looking up needs, suggestions and questions reflected in the daily reports.
  2. Reviews relevant parts of the SOS manual as the field work progresses (especially the action step details and the corresponding roles of Lead, Life and Light members.)
  3. Discusses and or models how to teach the lessons for conversion and discipleship. Seeks to lead volunteers to master the lessons.
  4. Gives daily quizzes.
  5. Addresses questions and difficulties met by volunteers on field.
  6. Gets assistance of other pastors or able leaders in the team.
  7. Signals squad leaders to lead their squads in group study.
  8. As much as possible, arms himself with basic study tools: Bible concordance, Bible Dictionary, Bible Handbook, relevant teaching outlines.
