The servant of the Lord has
developed a spiritual sensitivity to the person and program of the Holy Spirit.
He responds to no other force but His. He is himself full of the Holy Spirit
and openly participating in the operation of the spiritual gifts. Fueled by the
anointing, he ministers with fervency, “boiling hot” and enthusiastic when it
comes to God. Spreading spiritual flame, therefore he is contagious.. and
dangerous.. to the kingdom of darkness.
2. Active in church and leadership team.
The servant of
the Lord is alive to God within the Body of Christ. He honors the Head, the
Lord Jesus Christ (Who placed him in
strategic position in the Body), by being active in His Church -- its life,
ministries and missions . He knows that from
Him, the whole Body is joined and held together by every supporting ligament,
growing and edified in love, as each part does its work[1].
Do not spectate – participate. He
promotes its “Bonds” and its “Beauty” – its intimacy among members
and intimacy with the Lord. He submits his individualism to the principle of
unity and teamwork, knowing that if one will chase a thousand, two will chase ten thousand! He
is more powerful as a team worker than as an isolated maverick (one who is
unaffiliated, independent individualist).
3. Advancing in attitude-change.
The servant of the Lord is one who is being
“dressed in the quarry”
[2],for only blocks dressed in the quarry is
useful in God’s Temple.
God accepts us as we are but never leaves us
as we are. He is changing us from glory to glory. The servant of the
Lord is like a clay in the Potter’s hand. Any behavior and attitude that is not
fitting for one who serves the Lord is being removed and replaced by God’s
Spirit and Grace. We therefore tear down strongholds of arguments and
pretensions, that we may be truly obedient to God. But a behavior-change
decorates the Gospel and makes it attractive to everyone. A changed person is a
leader of influence.
4. Able to work with all kinds of people.
The servant of
the Lord is an inter-acting social being. He is God’s representative to people,
and being sent to them as a friend. He treats others greatly and
is careful to listen to them, being slow to speak and quick to hear. He
exercises maximum tolerance in the face of ugly situation and even ugly people.
He believes that God’s grace is bigger and His love stronger, than all of men’s
defects and malfunctioning. When hurt and wounded by people, he can always go
to the Healer of Hearts, to Him who is the Balm of Gilead and be mended. So,
next time, he rises up again, now dressed with a smile, empowered by mercy and
compassion like The Good Samaritan, and ministering again even to people who may
have caused the hurt.
5. Autonomous and can take care of self.
The servant of the Lord is a mature soul,
whose competence is not from self but from God. He has passed the days of
immaturity when he was dependent on others for almost all things in his spiritual
life. He knows how to find spiritual food and feeds himself from God’s Word. He
is a leader who knows how to lead himself. He regularly prays and seek guidance
from God. He carries his burden bravely and then cast it on Him Who cares for
His beloved. That is why, being freed from his own load, he can now carry the
load of others. He endeavors to take care of himself in God to a certain degree
without being a constant burden to others. This does not mean that he will not
welcome help from friends in Christ or feel guilty or embarrassed when he has
problems. In difficult times, he must be responsible to find needed help, or he
will really be in trouble.
6. Available and accepts responsibility.
The servant of
the Lord is marked by willingness to serve and being faithful in this
commitment. Therefore, he makes himself available. He considers serving God as
top priority and so in the contest of time and schedule, God wins. Some people
are able with gifts and skills but useless in god’s kingdom
because they did not make themselves available.
7. Affecting others by example of integrity.
The servant of
God leads best by example. He is visibly authentic. He desires to impact the
lives of others not by his lecturing but by his lifestyle. He is an influence
for good. Not a stumbling block. Fleshly and evil behavior dishonors God and
His Name, and further destroys the total witness of His Church.
8. Always having a positive outlook.
The servant of the Lord believes the Lord as
faithful and true. And so even in times of darkening storms and bitter battles
of life, he looks beyond and sees God. He believes in the good ending, and in
the just purposes of God for everything that happens. Not only that he sees the
positive outcome, but he says it, not in blind presumption, but as a confidence
in the god who made a promise. He builds a positive view of things, and builds
the faith of others.
9. Able and trustworthy in assignments.
The servant of the Lord knows his God-given skills
and abilities. He then develops them and employs them to serve the King. Their
yes means yes, and so even in assignments, they can be trusted. What ever they
do, prosper, just like Joseph of Daniel.
10. Achieving Church goals and vision.
The servant of the Lord is a team player who discerns God’s goal for
his local church and contributes his life’s service to its fulfillment. He runs
with the vision and does not invent another vision contrary or in addition to
the group vision for the church. Division comes from diverse visions people
independently bring to their group
COMMISSION:
"Under this commission, our
commitment first of all, is to the Head of the Church, the Lord Jesus Christ,
and to the revealed truth in the Bible. Our functioning is under the oversight
of our local Pastor and with the team of the workers serving the Lord in the
church. We pledge to be
trustworthy, faithful, united and loyal. We are committed for as long as the
Lord allows, and the Holy spirit empowers, and the believers affirm and permit.
We pray that we be allowed to renew this commitment yearly. Amen.”
